Last week, Bloomingdale High School hosted a blood drive where students and faculty could donate for the sake of other people’s health.

The purpose of the blood drive has always been to help those in need. For a person to volunteer a part of themselves to give to someone else; to try and save that person’s life, is one of the most selfless things a person can do.

Annually, the blood drive as a whole saves about 4.5 million lives in the United States. A single donation can save at least 3 people. Even just hosting a blood drive, such as the one Bloomingdale just held, can support the local community by offering gift cards and certificates to those who donate. While it seems odd, donating blood may actually help lower the risk of heart disease and heart attack.
